Wii Living

The Wii Experience is Now Wii Living!

Welcome to Wii Living, formerly known as The Wii Experience! We’re now part of the BloggyNetwork family of websites and although we’ve got a fresh new coat of paint and are on a faster server now, it’s still me, AndyG, bringing you Nintendo Wii news and more from all over the web.

We’re going to have lots of fun things coming with even more news updates, in-house videos, a return of the Wii Bits, and more so stay tuned and enjoy the new look and feel of Wii living! Also, special thanks to the BloggyNetwork for our new home and opportunities.

Our First Podcast Teaser!

We worked on our very first podcast last night called The Wiikly Review with JoeyBuckets from Wiikly Review and SwiitPii from MiiMall.com, in it we touch on a little bit of everything concerning the state of the Wii. We cover Virtual Console games, Elebits, what’s to come, and much more! Here’s a teaser of what’s to come when it’s all finished, click the play button in our fancy Pickle Player:

An Update About the Chat Here

I worked a bit more on the chat program I’m building for the site here, it’s built around AJAX so it’s real time and you do need to be logged in to view it. Here’s a couple of screens of it in action, one from the side bar here on the site and one of the version you can view from your Nintendo Wii with it’s own stylesheets to ensure it displays properly on your TV:

Sidebar View Here on TWE

Full Size View for the Nintendo Wii

You can check out the side bar here on the site if you have an account with us and you are logged in and there is a link to the Nintendo Wii version right here ( http://www.thewiiexperience.com/TWEchat/wiiindex.php ). You will also need to login to the site from your Wii to chat in real time with us here and both chat views are tied to the same database, keeping everything on track. The backend supports posting YouTube videos, posting images of your favorite Wii related items, and much more already! Private messaging is coming soon as well so check it out either here or on your Wii. Let’s see if we can’t get a few of you to help us test it out and work the kins out of the machine!

Wii Chat is Up!

The real time chat thingy I’ve been working on it here, you need an account with us and you also have to be logged in for it to appear on the right hand sidebar. It also has a great Wii Version that seems to work just fine, you’ll need to be logged in to view that as well. Just visit the site with your Wii, login, then hit the link in the chatbox to get it working! Make it a favorite and you can join us in chat anytime from your Nintendo Wii! It’s powered by AJAX so it’s real time, no refreshing needed. I’ll be working on the looks of it and functionality, if you have any questions or comments, leave them in the comments to this post, email me, or leave them in the chat! Enjoy! :D

GameWith.Us - A Great Place for Wii Owners!

If you own a Nintendo Wii or a DS and enjoy The Wii Experience and would like to exchange some friends codes, pics of your Mii’s, or even pics of yourselves with each other, I have a pal that has created a very cool site that brings all of this together. GameWith.us is a community resource site with many features and we have our very own The Wii Experience group setup right here!

Our Group Mainpage

Once you sign up for an account (which is a very easy process), you can then join our group here and then upload your pic in our TWE Gallery, enter your Wii Friends Codes in and more. In the Friends Code list, it’s easy to see the friends codes of others in our group and you can add them all and check a box that lets them know you’ve added them. If you see a “Y” beside someones name in the list, that means they’ve added you and you need to add them to complete the connection. It’s very intuitive and easy to use, check out the pic below for example:

Sample Friends Listing

In the screenshot above, the user already has already exchanged codes with Alpha1 and Dudley, but Booger’s highlighted, which means that he’s added you, but you haven’t added him to your DS or Wii in return. The highlighted lines makes it a snap to see who’s already added you to their systems so thaht you can quickly go down the list and add anyone who’s already entered your Friend ID.

When you add someone to your system, you have to check their box and that will notify them that they’ve been added to your game.

It’s a much better system than blindly posting codes on forums all over the internet. The system allows you to track Wii and DS friend codes alike, allowing you to track multiple DS games and even the color of your DS for fun! Here’s a link to our current friends codes listing; sign up and add me!

You can also enter your address and map yourself on a custom built Google Map application to find Wii or DS owners near you. Here’s a screen showing myself and the site owner all by our lonesome selves as we wait for you to sign up and join!

Our Lonely Google Map - Join Us!

You can also upload your picture to the Gallery and eventually, we will be able to upload pictures of the custom Mii’s we’ve created and even vote on them. Here’s a sample shot from our Gallery Section.

Our Gallery So Far

I highly encourage you all to sign up for an account with GameWith.Us, join our TWE group, and get started adding each other. The site has tons of features already that will help our community here and it’s growing with even more stuff so get to it and sign up today! The service is totally free with no ads or annoyances at all. Everything is very secure and none of your private information is shared at anytime. I look forward to seeing you at GameWith.us and sharing Friends Codes and more!

Got Friend Codes?

Do any of you readers that have a Wii want to post your friend codes and try to get more Wii fans as friends? Post your codes in the comments here and I’ll update this post with your codes! I’ll be making a page out of this eventually so it will be easily accessed in the future as more readers get their Wii’s and supply their codes.

EA Forms Wii Only Studio

GameSpot has the scoop concerning EA and their purchase of Headgate studios which will become a Wii focused developer house for EA. In the past this studio was responsible for Tiger Woods (yall) and Madden PC ports so it will be neat to see exactly what they bring to the table for the Wii. From GameSpot:

Today, EA threw more of its considerable weight behind Nintendo’s new console. The company announced that it has bought Headgate Studios, the developer of the last six PC installments in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise and Madden NFL 07. Now the shop, redubbed EA Salt Lake, will “focus on development for the Nintendo Wii.

No specific titles were mentioned in the EA Salt Lake announcement. Given its resume, though, the shop is presumably working on the Wii edition of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, due out next March. The only EA Wii game currently on the market, Madden NFL 07 was developed by a Wii-dedicated division of EA Canada’s Burnaby, British Columbia, studio. EA is also bringing Need for Speed Carbon, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, SSX, The Godfather, and the aforementioned Sims to the platform.”

Sounds great, I love the fact so many 3rd party developers are putting weight behind the Wii! Let’s see what EA can do with it’s new studio and what kind of fun games they can produce. I have to admit.. That new Sims game coming to the Wii from EA is looking verrry interesting! Let’s just hope EA doesn’t go micro-transaction crazy for the Wii, right?
