Wii Bits for Wednesday, February 21, 2007

Yes! It’s a return of the Wii Bits posts, I plan on bringing these back as a way to cover some of the Wii news that didn’t warrant a full posting as well as a way to cover any kind of site news and/or other Wii goodness.

In case you missed the welcome post, I’m AndyG and what used to be The Wii Experience is now Wii Living and along with the new name and layout will come even more features and in-house items like videos, reviews, and other fun stuff. I’ve already got a few articles in the works and will be bringing you some videos of Virtual Console titles as well as full on Wii games to give you a taste of what they have to offer.

Lately I’ve been enjoying some of the finer GameCube titles like Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 as it’s just amazing to me how some of these older games have held up. If you need some great games to play while we wait for our favorite upcoming Wii games to hit, be sure to grab a Wavebird and give some of the GameCube games a go. I could recommend a few including RE4, and Metroid Prime, but also be sure to check out Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros Melee, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario 2, Eternal Darkness, the Monkey Ball games, and on and on.. The GameCube had some great games on the system that you can not only play on your Wii, but you can find them all for fairly cheap, most if not all being under $20. Ok, on with this edition of Wii Bits!

- GameSpot has some new screens from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 up, I’m looking forward to this as I know a few family members I will be playing this with. After seeing how well a game of golf could be played with the Wii Remote in Wii Sports, I’m interested to see how EA and Tiger Woods will bring it to the next level with a full on game. So far, it’s looking great.

- ZeldaDimension.net found a rather interesting easter egg of sorts in Zelda:TP on a very appropriate day. They noticed while playing on Presidents Day here in the US a picture of what appears to be a famous United States president. Some say it looks like George Washington, others say it’s Thomas Jefferson. Follow the link to make your guess or check out Jovani’s house in the Hyrule Market area to see it for yourself.

- Oh man I would love to see a football game like this in the US, but there’s no word of it coming to this side of the ocean just yet. While Madden 07 is a fantastic football game for the Nintendo Wii, Eyeshield 21 puts a different twist on the genre, bringing a more arcade type feel to the game and is almost minigame-like with it’s controls and gameplay. Check the link there at Japanator.com to see how the two games compare and while it’s style and play may not be for everyone, I think it could be fun and would love to be able to play the game for a change in pace.

- The Nintendo Wii has outsold both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 in January according to Bloomberg.com’s report here. Citing NPD data, the Wii system sold 436,000 units while the 360 and PS3’s sold 294,000 and 244,000 respectively. It seems while the system is still tough to find in stores, they are still selling like hotcakes.

- Castlevania, Zombies At My Neighbors, and TMNT coming to the Virtual Console soon? It just may be true as GoNintendo.com has found an ESRB entry for all three meaning they could be coming in the near future. I loved all three of these titles for the original systems and will be picking them up again if they appear.

- Famitsu has a slew of new Super Paper Mario screens up showing off what the game has to offer for the Wii. The game sounds like a blast from the gameplay ideas I’ve heard and the graphics definitely have a style all their own. Paper Mario 2 for the GameCube was incredibly fun and I can’t wait to see what this one brings to the Wii system.

- If your looking for more thoughts on the recent VC releases, check out this writeup from 1up where they give the latest releases the old thumbs up/thumbs down routine. It’s split right at 50/50 with two games getting a thumbs up and the other two getting the thumbs down.

- And in case you’re interested in some of the better GameCube games, here’s a list from Amazon.com someone made of the “must have” titles and I agree with most of them. About.com also has this list here which had some redundancies but list a few the other missed.

Thanks for reading, have a great Wednesday and let us know what your favorite GameCube games that folks shouldn’t miss in the comments! If you have any comments about the new look and feel of the site, let us know as well as we’d love to hear it.

Wii Bits for Friday, January 5th

Ahh, Friday again. My how the time flies when you’re having fun, especially with your Nintendo Wii! There’s a track on Excitetruck that is just killlling me and while it’s a Platinum track, it’s the first one and is tougher than the rest of them in the series. I think it’s because it’s a snow level track and man do I despise slippery snow levels! The game is still an absolute blast, especially when I’m racing around with my custom MP3’s from my SD card. I do hope more games support this feature.

Working on the podcast with Joey and SwiitPii was an absolute blast, we have some re-recording to do on segments that didn’t come out too clear, but it’s going to kick butt when it’s done. Like.. Reggie Fils-Aimes has run ‘outta bubble gum kick butt. Here’s some Wii Bits for the end of the week, have a great and safe weekend my fantastic readers!

- Keep an eye out for a book about the Wii coming soon, here’s a link to Random House books with more information it. The book seems to cover everything about the Wii system itself including configuration, playing with Mii’s and the other channels, and even a strategy guide for Wii Sports.

- EuroGamer has their eye on the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and in the article linked, they look at both, Nintendo DS and Wii offerings to come for 2007. It’s looking more and more like 2007 is going to be the year of Nintendo with the one two punch that is the DS and the Wii and I can’t wait.

- Here’s a neat writeup showing how much more powerful the Wii is than the GameCube in case you were still wondering.

- NYKO has announced even more peripherals for the Nintendo Wii system, and GameBizDaily.com has the low-down. Look for the charging kit, HiDef cables, and even a wireless, extended range sensor bar to come from them in the near future.

- A nice writeup over ar Gamasutra going over sales number for the Wii in comparison to the other Next Gen systems this holiday season. Here’s a good quote that sums it up nicely:

“Our checks indicate that Nintendo’s Wii console continues to sell well, while Sony PS3 supplies improved somewhat towards the end of the holiday period. We believe Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is on track to reach our 2006 sales estimate of 4.5 million units in the U.S., while Nintendo’s Wii will likely exceed our original 1.2 million-unit target. Our estimate for PS3 sales in the U.S. for 2006 remains 700k units.”

- And lastly, here’s an amusing look at 100 very creative Mii’s on the Nintendo Wii. Most of these come from the very talented community over at MiiPlaza.net, be sure to check their site out for even more creative Mii’s:

Ok, till next time, thanks for reading!

Wii Bits for Wednesday, January 3rd

Been slow with the news lately, but I’ve been working on a super secret project I promise will be cool! Or.. At least I hope it will be cool. It’s essentially real-time chat that will work in your Wii Browser as well! It will be visible on the sidebar of the site here if you are logged in once it’s launched and have a special “full mode” you can use on your Wii as well if you’d like. All you’ll need is your login here on the site and you’ll be able to chat away with folks here or on the Wii! More news to come on that little project, in the meantime, let’s see what Wii Bits we’ve got for today!

- Here’s an interesting forum post asking how high the skill level can go on Wii Sports with the writer’s charted score nearly touching the top of his TV. He reaches well over 2000 in Wii Sports Boxing and questions what exactly the limit is.

- GamerGauge has an update talking about how the Wii is still about the hottest thing to be released in a long time pointing to a G4TV episode that claimed “in its first month since the launch, a total of 3.19 million consoles have been sold worldwide”. Sounds about right, the Nintendo Wii can’t be found anywhere and it’s not because Nintendo isn’t making them. Go Wii, go!

- That’s alot of Wii’s! The MapWii.com project has logged over 3,000 Wii’s to date, closer to 4,000 now. With the MapWii site, you can mark yourself on a map and show others where you Wii from!

- Nintendo Wii’s are selling like hotcakes in Japan this past week as well according to ComputerWorld news.

Sales totaled 279,277 units for the week, according to figures from Media Create. That’s more than double the number sold a week earlier and the greatest weekly sales yet with the exception of launch week, when 350,358 consoles were sold, according to Media Create.

Nice little surge in Wii sales in Japan!

- In case you haven’t gotten movies to play properly on your Wii just yet, here’s a fairly straightforward page with links showing you how. The best program to use is RedKawa’s Wii Video 9, it’s worked like a charm for us!

- And lastly, Play-Nintendo.com has an interesting article up asking if 2007 could be the year of Nintendo giving a few good reasons as to why it very well could. Lot’s of cool videos and screens and more there so check it out.

Alrighty, I should have more news coming about the chat project I am working on. It supports a few cool features and I’m working on more. Private messaging is in, support for showing YouTube videos is in, I will be building a larger font version for the Wii and would love to show you a demo, but it’s coming soon enough, I promise. :D Stay tuned and thanks for visiting The Wii Experience!

Wii Bits for January 1, 2006

Ahh yes.. Another year, more resolutions and predictions! A couple of my own resolutions have included giving up a couple of vices (chewing my fingernails mainly) and getting back into shape (OF COURSE!). Wii Sports should help me out with that! ;) As for predictions, I predict the Nintendo Wii will outpace the XBOX 360 in 6 to 8 months max and the PS3 will continue to not sell very well compared to the other two systems with the PS2 outselling it all year. SSBM, Metroid Prime 3, and Mario Galaxy will be released with great positive reactions from the gaming base and Wii Play in the US will be seen as a great addition to the lineup for the new and older gamers alike alongside Wii Sports. The DS will never stop selling like hotcakes. The Wii will also get more colors late in 2007 and maybe even a price drop that will really heat up the console wars. Now, those are all my predictions, what predictions do you have for 2007? Let us know in the comments here! On with some Wii Bits for today!

- Ever heard the argument “Nintendo should just merge with this company” or “Nintendo is losing the console war, why don’t they fold up shop..”? Take a look at this stock chart for Nintendo as it’s going up and up and up for them in the past year. Way to go Nintendo, thanks to GoNintendo.com for the headsup. Also, for fun, here’s a chart comparing growth for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

- Here’s an interesting contraption built for the Wii Remote, it’s a makeshift gun shell made from Lego’s and although slightly heavy by the makers own accord, it works great with any shooters you may currently have. Very creative, here’s hoping we see that official Nintendo gun shell soon enough.

- John Gaudiosi from The Daily News picks the Nintendo Wii as his console of the year with the follwing blurb:

No gaming system is likely to expand video games to the mass market more than Wii. Despite the weird name, it’s the most accessible game platform out there, thanks to its motion-sensor controls that entice gamers to get off the couch and physically get into the games. The included Wii Sports games alone make this $250 system worth the price.

Yes! Even more mainstream press giving the Wii proper credit for it’s achievements thusfar with the Wii. It’s good to see this and it’s exactly what Nintendo had planned. The one two punch of the DS and Wii is making this one of the best times to be a gamer.

- Computer and Video Games (dot com) has their list of the Top 10 games to watch on the Wii in 2007 and I’m looking forward to most of those, especially Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros., and Disaster.

- Here’s another person doing a Nintendo Wii workout program, for 30 days, he will follow a strict regimen of playing the more active games on the Wii and charting his success. He’s going to try to post every day with his results, so keep an eye on his blog if you’re interested. We’ll do a followup with his progress as it goes as well if he sticks to it.

Alrighty then, I’ve got more news to come on the site here and I’m also working on a video of Castlevania IV from the Virtual Console so keep checking back! Thanks for visiting The Wii Experience and have a great new year!

Wii Bits for Friday, December 29th!

Ahhh, Friday already. It’s raining cats and dogs here, so there’s nothing better to do than stay inside playing the Wii! I’m also going to be working on a couple of videos, the ExciteTruck one and another showing off some Castlevania IV from the Virtual Console, both of which will be coming soon so keep an eye out. If you’ve missed our past videos, be sure to check them out on our YouTube space here! While not the best videos quality wide, they are sure fun to make so we hope you guys enjoy them. On with todays Wii Bits!

- The New York Times has a great article up praising the Nintendo Wii and how it gets folks into the game so much so that it could be construed as a workout for some. He goes into details concerning his experience with the Nintendo Wii and how everyone “from my two-year-old to my 78-year-old father” had fun with the system over the holidays.

- Gizmodo has the scoop on how you can turn your Nintendo Wii into a media player with the help of Red Kawa! Play back movies (limited to .flv files), music, pictures, and even browse files on your server through the setup offered on Red Kawa’s page. All you need to do is install the free software on a PC connected to the same network as the Wii.

- Over at NintendoWiiFanboy.com, they have the results of a poll asking how you play your Wii. Most folks say they play standing up with a tie between “I don’t have a Wii..” and “I prefer to keep it OG and sit” coming in close second. How do you play your Wii? I think it depends on the game, in Wii Sports, I stand for all games while in Zelda or ExciteTruck, I sit.

- Need some help with that Wii game you’ve got? HelpMii.com has you covered with a few articles already up that should provide help and more to come. The site features a Wiki style backend to allow for anyone and everyone to submit content. It’s fairly new so if you’ve got tips or strategies for any of the games, go help them out!

Alright, time to get to work on those videos, I hope you all have a great day! Stay tuned for more Nintendo Wii news as it comes in at The Wii Experience!

Wii Bits for Thursday, December 28th!

Finally got myself a 2 Gig SD memory card and man is Excitetruck even more fun once you have your own song playlist going on. I’m going to put a few pics on it as well so we can do the puzzle game inside the Picture Channel with them. On another note, I’m starting to wonder what we’re going to do when we run out of Channel room for our Virtual Console games. Currently, we take up almost 2 pages worth. It would be much better honestly to see a Channel devoted soley to the Virtual Console or perhaps a channel for each system where you can then choose the game you’d like to play instead of having every game on our Channel pages. What say you? Here’s some Wii Bits!

- Here’s a great video of a CNBC interview where an analyst claims major developers may be missing out big time if they don’t support the Wii. They point to certain publishers like Activision and THQ that have supported it with great success thus far while dev houses like EA have shown minimal support and may in turn be in trouble come 2007 if they continue to spend millions of money developing for systems that do not show similar returns. Check the link for the video.

- Contra 3 for SNES coming to the Wii Virtual Console? According to NintendoWiiFanboy.com, it just may be true after checking out the ESRB homepage. Could it be here on Monday? We shall see!

- Here’s a very cool article about local library that has a Nintendo Wii for folks to enjoy. We live in a small town ourselves and while I doubt our library will be getting one, I have thought about hosting a fun night here at our apartment complex for folks to come and check it out and enjoy some pizza while they are at it. It would be a hit no doubt with the kids here and also with plenty of the parents as we show them Excitetruck, Wii Sports, and a few of the VC offerings.

- Money.Cnn has a commentary up titled “Beware the Wii Zone” where the writer almost entices lawyers to do something about the Nintendo Wii; even the title of the page states in typicle over the top news presentation style, “Wii Injuries: Lawsuits against Nintendo Coming?” An interesting portion of the article states:

Should people blame Nintendo? No. Sure, the Wii encourages body movement and when bodies move, collisions happen. That’s a fact in any sport or backyard game. And the Wii has constant reminders about safety and movement.

Yet in his opening statement, he perhaps jokingly blames the Wii himself:

Emergency rooms aren’t fun, especially on Christmas Day. But that’s where we were … thanks to our new Wii.

C’mon, do as your article suggests and take some responsibility for yourself or in this case, perhaps the sentence should read “.. thanks to my daughter’s over-excitement.” Nobody likes to claim their kids may be at fault do they? We encourage you all to be responsible as the overall theme of the article suggests.

Ok enjoy this Thursday, we’re keeping our eyes and ears out for any news, especially anything showing what might be coming on Monday’s VC update. If you come across anything, as always mail it in to us here! Hasta!

Wii Bits for Wednesday December 27!

Just had the DSL guy leave, our connection has been going up and down like a see-saw for the past week and I’ve been putting off calling in to the phone company, waiting till after the holidays have settled a bit. We have our Wii sitting on our desk here beside our DSL modem and wireless router and he saw it and was instantly curious. He had finished his work and I asked him if he’d like to check it out and for the next 20 minutes we played bowling and Excitetruck. He was blown away and said while he wanted the 360, the cost and time-bomb like failure rates of that system has kept him away but this machine is so neat and affordable, he had to get one. I knew he’d see it and be interested! We’ve had so many people come by and play the unit and become seriously interested in buying one after playing it for even 10 minutes. They have all been surprised by the ease of play and the responsiveness of the controls. The internet browser and past games you can grab in the shop were extra bonus’ that seem to wow folks as well. Nothing like watching YouTube on your TV to make people ooh and ahh. Ok on with todays Wii Bits!

- Looking for a way to message folks on the net with your Wii? MessengerFX seems to work with the Wii’s Opera browser, allowing you to send and receive instant messages with other internetizens. You will need an MSN account, but that’s not such a bad thing is it? Or.. Hrmm. Give it a go!

- NintendoWiiFanboy.com has a neat writeup with a video attached of a guy using hiw Wii remote to control his Roomba robot vacuum cleaner. The things people are using the remote for with it’s motion sensing is amazing!

- Here’s a neat application if you have a computer with Bluetooth going on, the Mii Mega Mall allows you to download and transfer Mii’s to your Wii Remotes and then in turn to your Wii system! Keep up with community uploaded Mii’s and trade your creations with others with ease!

- With the holidays coming to a slow grinding halt, the numbers are coming in and it appears the Wii has been outselling the PS3 by a margin of about 2 to 1. With PS3’s being seen on store shelves gathering dust, I doubt production issues are the sole cause and it’s more to do with the Wii being a more fun system for all gamers at a much better price for the masses. I predict the Wii will continue to outsell the PS3 throughout it’s lifetime and will catch the 360 numbers in 6-8 months.

- In case you’re still wondering about that Wii Opera browser, check out Eurogamer’s writeup of the browser and what can be done with it. We love it around here, the ability to play Flash games and watch YouTube vids on our TV with the Wii Remote is a glorious experience!

- More Nintendo Wii sales news, the system has just passed the 3 million systems sold worldwide mark and is well on it’s way to catching the 360. It’s only around 3.5 million behind the 360 in the US already and that’s 1.5 months after launch. Along with the incredible success of the DS, this should help rub some of that tarnish off that the GameCube acquired for the company as a gaming powerhouse. Nintendo knows gaming and it’s about time they get to revel in the limelight again. It’s like it’s 1985 all over again!

Alllllrighty then, hope you guys are enjoying your Wii’s, new or old, be sure you get an account here at The Wii Experience and start trading your Wii codes with us here on our TWE Friends Codes page! We’ll be posting more news as it’s found throughout the day, we’re back on track around here at the site as you can tell so expect lot’s of fun things. We’re even planning on a contest for a 2000 Wii points card and should have the details on that laid out very soon so stay tuned!

Whew! Wii Bits for Tuesday, December 26!

I hope you all had a great Christmas, we sure did around here! Didn’t really get anything Wii related, but I did treat myself to R-Type and Super Mario Bros from the Virtual Console. I’m thinking of getting Castlevania IV also and maybe even Street Fighter II. Did anyone get anything fun and exciting? Perhaps a Wii system you’ve been hoping for? Let’s see what’s going on in the Wii world today!

- Want to watch some YouTube videos on your Wii but you don’t like the YouTube.com layout? Tryout SofaTube.com! It’s got some of the latest and best videos from YouTube organized a bit better for your Wii viewing we hear. Check it out and let us know what you think!

- If you have an iTunes account and you want to check out your music on your Wii, visit DotTunes.net and see what they can do for you! This handy web based app will allow you to listen to your iTunes music over your Wii!

- Have you not gotten Zelda:TP for the GC or Wii yet? Well, lucky for you, Target has the game on sale for only $39 until the 30th! Check out the link for the weekly ad and go spend some of that Christmas money on it!

- Kotaku has word on the top 10 Wii games according to GameFly.com with Elebits leading the charge! Also on the list is Metal Slug, Rayman, and ExciteTruck.

- Here’s an old tidbit that recently resurfaced, the Battalion Wars 2 for the Wii will feature 3 online modes - Assault, Co-op, and Skirmish according to this IGN article from way back in August. Yeah it’s old, but some may have missed it and it’s exciting to remember another Wii game coming with online support!

- The LATimes of all places has an interesting article up talking about how Mom’s are pushing for folks to play the Nintendo Wii! Here’s a snippet:

Linda Perry, who started a Yahoo parents’ group called Peachhead, was one of three designated, and decidedly animated, buzz-makers in Los Angeles. She sent out chalkboards inviting 35 friends to “come out and play” in a bash at one of the city’s favorite star haunts, the Chateau Marmont.

“Most people were like, ‘I don’t play games,’ ” said Perry, 41, of Venice Beach. But by the end of the night, she said, “everybody was playing it. People were working up a sweat.”

Ok, we hope you all had a great holiday time, we’ll be pushing out more and more updates as we go! We’ve got lots of videos to make and will be hopping on that work today so keep an eye on the page for some interesting videos! Till next time!

Wii Bits for Thursday, December 21st!

Holy schnikes, we’ve been busy! I apologize for the lack of updates and thank RobbM for getting our back here with the great ones he’s providing. I think I can still wrangle up a few Wii Bits for today and I promise that Military Madness video is coming very soon! Let’s see what’s going on in Wii news today:

- NintendoWiiFanboy.com has the skinny on the games coming for the Virtual Console on Christmas. It looks like we can expect Super Mario Bros for the NES, Street Fight II: The World Warrior from the SNES, Castlevania IV from the SNES (loved that one), To Jam and Earl from the Genesis (!!), and R-Type from the TG-16 days. Some good titles in there, can’t wait for Christmas!

- Has the Wii been hacked? Maybe so if you believe this video. Using a combination of an SD card hack and a burned DVD, they appear to get Zelda: TP working on the Wii. We’ll keep an eye on this and if true can mean trouble if Nintendo doesn’t get it squared away.

- Here’s an interesting article from EDN.Com discussing the technical issues inherent when running Bluetooth and Wifi in the same box as the Wii does. It lays out possible issues for the Wii and how the Bluetooth tech that the remote relies upon may interfere with the 802.11 connection that multiplayer gaming will rely upon.

- CodenameRevolution.com has a writeup talking about Disney’s High School Musical franchise and how it may reach the Wii someday. A movie to TV hit for Disney, it would only make sense to see a video adaptation of this coming at some point.

MMmmmm I think the spaghetti is almost done and dinner time is near! I hate to leave you guys so soon, but we’ll be back, I promise! With even more news, more videos, more rumors, more fun Nintendo Wii related articles, more.. UMPH! Have a happy holidays and I hope you all enjoy being with close ones during these times. I also hope you all get Wii’s for presents, maybe even two.

Wii Bits for Wednesday, December 20th!

A fairly slow news day today compounded with how busy we’ve been lately with the holidays means this edition of Wii Bits may be a tad on the short side. The rest of the week may be spotty as well, but trust we will be back full force just after Christmas updating as much as we normally do. We finished up our holiday baby videos for the year last night so now I’ve got some time to make a few more Wii videos and I’m going to start with a “How To” for Military Madness for those that haven’t played it. I’ve spent a bit of time with it and like it so far, it’s a much more simplistic version of Advance Wars and so far so good. I should have that wrapped up before Christmas for you guys so keep an eye out. Here’s some Wii Bits for today!

- The Guardian has an interesting article talking about how the “low tech” Wii won this years console wars. This article talks of how the Wii has won the hearts and minds of gamers and non-gamers alike, fulfilling exactly what Nintendo wanted to do in a very short amount of time already. It also covers the lack of titles for the 360 that stand out besides Gears of War and Viva Pinata to entice non-gamer crowd and even goes on to claim that because of MS’s failure to recognize the new market, they just may not even be part of the “two horse race” in 2007. I have to say I was out today shopping and noticed many people, young and old, looking into the Wii at various stores we were in and moreover, *not* looking into the 360 or the PS3 which were just beside the Wii demo stations, sitting unplayed. And seemingly not only to buy as presents, but with genuine enthusiasm as they ooh’d and ahh’d over the possibilities and remarking over how they had heard it was so much fun to play. Will 2007 be the Wii’s year to shine while the 360 and PS3 fight it out for the “American teenage boys obsessed with sci-fi, sport and fantasy violence”? We shall see!

- Firing Squad has the low-down on Nintendo’s response to a class action lawsuit regarding the Wii straps. From the response:

We believe the lawsuit to be completely without merit. Nintendo has a long tradition of delivering high-quality products and excellent customer service, and we take all reports from our customers seriously.

At the time we became aware of the lawsuit, we had already taken appropriate steps to reinforce with consumers the proper use of the Wii Remote and had made stronger replacement wrist straps available. This suit has had no effect on those efforts.

- Check out Kotaku for news of Wii Sports being the most important game of 2006. I’d have to say Wii Sports and Zelda alone are more than worth the price of admission for the Wii system.

- GameDaily.com covers news that past Nintendo execs have been awarded with lifetime achievement awards. Nintendo’s Arakawa and Lincoln were both awarded, read the article for the whole scoop.

- Want to know what the Wii Opera browser trial will be like? Check out SkepticalGaming.com’s article going over what to possibly expect. The most serious point of delay comes in the form of ensuring there are no Javascript exploits that can be used to compromise the system as a whole. More at the article, a good read indeed. Can’t wait till Friday!!

Ok there’s a few juicy bits, stay tuned and we’ll keep the news coming in as we see it!

Wii Bits for Tuesday December 19th!

Ohhh the weather outside is frightful. But the glow from my monitor is delightful. So hey! How about that Forecast Channel coming early? In a time when it seems things are normally and expectedly delayed, it’s refreshing to see something come out early. Good to hear the Opera browser will be out on Friday as well. In other news, I checked out Military Madness and will be making a short video showing you what that game is all about very soon, maybe even today. Here’s some Wii news bits to keep you occupied until then:

- Wii Play for the US delayed?? Say it isn’t so! Well, according to GoNintendo.com, (who checked out Nintendo’s press room), Wii Play has been pushed back until February for the US folks. Nuts! This is a game I have been excited about coming in January. And I was just talking about things being delayed too, I jinxed it. :(

- Speaking of GoNintendo, they’ve also got a review of something that looks awesome, the NES controller port converter for the Wii! Bottom line, he thinks it rocks so go check it out.

- Line Rider coming to the Nintendo Wii? Maybe so says 1up after inXile Entertainment bought the rights to the fun toy/game/interactive web thingy. If you’re not sure what Line Rider is, check out these YouTube videos.

- And lastly, check out this crazy video of a couple guys talking about what they want for Christmas, it features the Nintendo Wii with lightsaber effects, nice:

Ok that’s it for today, not a ton of Wii news, but the news that is there seems to be good. Still messing around with this Forecast Channel, might get around to making that Military Madness video today. The holidays are kinda crazy so you may see less and less of both myself and RobbM but trust we’re always on the lookout for news and tidbits for the Nintendo Wii to post for you fine folks. If you come across something, be sure to mail it in to us and we’ll give you props for the heads up! Till next time!

Wii Bits for Monday Dec 18 2006

Hey hey hey! It’s AndyG comin’ your way. That’s a Fat Albert reference for you youngin’s. Now I feel old. Maybe it’s just a case of the Muhn-days.. Ok I’ll stop with the references. ;) Had a great time making that Zelda Items Video for you fine folks and I’ve gotten lots of positive comments and emails about it so thanks for those! I’ll be whipping up an Elebits video soon showing you what’s up with that crazy title. In the meantime, here’s some Wii Bits for ya!

- Joystiq has an article showing how Elebits is doing on various outlets with most places giving it a score between 70 and around an 85. I’d have to agree with that as the game is fun but kinda quirky in in a unique way. Think Katamari Damacy for the PS2, Toy Commander for the Dreamcast, those types of games. Definitely rent it and see if it’s something you personally enjoy before purchasing. I love it myself but understand how some may find it too zany for their tastes.

- NintendoRevolution.ca has a news bit up explaining how there was no Nintendo Wii Strap recall despite the major news media outlets choosing to run with a half baked story. The straps were not recalled as reported, there was simply a way you could get new, thicker straps if you wish. A quote from Nintendo themselves:

Nintendo is not recalling any of the Wii wrist straps for its motion sensitive Wii Remote. There is no problem with the existing wrist strap as long as the Wii Remote is used sensibly and properly in accordance with the guidelines provided by Nintendo. All parts of the wrist strap have passed product testing and quality control.

- Boom Town has news of Prince of Persia coming to the Wii in the form of “Prince of Persia: Rival Swords”. The game will use the Remote and Nunchuk to control the character and is based on last years game, PoP: The Two Thrones.

- Check out this webcomic from DuelingAnalogs shining a humorous eye on the recent Wii injuries. Some of these can’t be real, I mean a Remote through the side of a TV? Cmon.. Some folks will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame.

- Wonder how these crazy motion sensing controllers work? Check out ScienceLine.org as they have a writeup going into detail showing how motion sensing controllers function. It’s all magic and fairy dust to me!

Ok, we’ll have more news and stuff coming through the day, hope you all had a great weekend, welcome to the new week!

Early Friday Wii Bits!

Hey hey, we made it to Friday! Didn’t play too much Elebits today, still working on Zelda where we’re now around 20 hours in and just finished the 2nd dungeon. I’m really taking my time when playing to explore areas and making sure I at least try to find everything. There are some nice classic Zelda surprises in the game and some new stuff as well like a new item we just got that acts as binoculars. We also just got the bombs which you can attach to arrows and fire off for long range bombing. I’ll be working on a video very soon showing off a few of the gadgets you get in game and how they work with the Wii controls as some of them I just wouldn’t want to play with the classic gamepads and you’ll see why. Here’s some news bits to start off Friday!

- We kinda new more colors would be coming for the Wii as Nintendo has shown off other colors before but here’s an article from dpad.gotfrag that speaks of a talkative Toys R Us manager that hinted to a cheaper Wii coming in various colors soon enough. A $200 Wii in red, green, black or silver? Could be, read the link for more speculation.

- There is a very good article over at EuroGamer discussing how Nintendo is different from the rest of the console makers and why they will never give up the console business. Plenty of folks have said in the past that the big Nintendo is doomed, should stop making consoles and focus on software, etc. and this article explains why Nintendo will not and cannot go that route.

- Rumors flying around that Amazon is about to unleash plenty of Wii and PS3 stock. Although this is a rumor posted with very little proof, I would keep an eye on Amazon.com’s Wii page “in the coming days” if you’re looking for a one.

- Got a cool Mii you want on a TShirt? These guys can help you out with that! You send them your Mii, they put it on a shirt, you buy the shirt.

- Here’s a couple of videos that show off the difference in video quality when using composite vs component video cables for your Nintendo Wii. The colors are brighter and more true along with textures being sharper and the cables are definately worth it if your TV supports it.

Going to see how much further in Zelda I can get now, also going to play some Sports to get my fitness age. I’ve played the fitness test three times now and gotten an age of 29 each time and considering I’m 32, that’s not too shabby! More news and updates to come throughout the day.
