No, I’m not trying to make some kind of joke about my private parts needing to be fixed, I’m talking about the fact I sent my Wii off for repair today and as I waved goodbye to it in the box FedEx supplied for me, I shed a tiny tear. Mainly because I knew I wouldn’t be getting it back before SSBB hits, which is my own dumb fault. It’s not that the Wii was scratching my games or not playing them or showing red rings or anything of that nature, it’s just been making an awful grinding sound akin to a power drill being turned on inside the unit. The noise started about 2 months ago and I am just now getting around to fixing it.
For those interested, the process for sending in your Nintendo Wii for repair is super, super painless. I called up the Nintendo support line, explained the situation to the guy on the other end (who was very professional and courteous) and told him that although it’s not a showstopping issue with the Wii, it is something I wanted to get fixed before my warranty ran out. Guess what! My warranty had just ran out last week.. The great news is without hesitation, the Nintendo rep told me they would still cover it. SUCH great service, especially seeing the unit was still playing games just fine and operating normally besides the fact it sounded like a tiny chainsaw. I was very excited to hear that they would be fixing it to say the least.
The next thing the rep told me was he would be emailing me a link to print out a FedEx label to ship the unit back, simply box it up, slap that label on it, and drop it off at FedEx. So that’s what we did today. And now I’m sad. No Wii and no SSBB for me until I get the unit back. I don’t foresee it taking a very long time to get it back, but I will be staring at my copy of SSBB intently, reading and smelling the manual as I await my precious’ return.
I’ll wrap this up with another small writeup when I get the unit back letting you know how long the turnaround is just in case the very off chance happens that you need to send yours in. Handle it with delicate hands, FedEx!

As I’ve said before, Nintendo really treats the customer right when it comes to service. No need for in-store extended warranties with the Big N. The only real drawback is that none of your Mii’s will be editable or postable to the Check Mii Out Channel if they swap your system for a new one. But this is OK, since you get a brand new one year warranty with your repaired/replaced console. Fair trade. :)

OMFG! no smash for you?! Honestly, i probably would have waited to atleast play Smash for a couple of days, and then sent my baby on its way, lol.

It may be better this way. If he kept the Wii for “a few days” to play Smash, I think he’d miss the game even more, or even delay the servicing by weeks. Nevermind the fact that the warranty had already expired. Definitely a good move, the game will be waiting to be played for months and months after the Wii returns.

I sent my Wii back to mothership in february 2nd, and 10 days later it returned shining and ready to rumble. It had an annoying grinding sound when any CD was inside and spinning. It was diagnosed as a faulty mechanism and repaired for free for being still under warranty.
Luckily I had registered my Wii at MyNintendo, which gave me a three month extension in its warranty, because the original 12 month warranty expired back in november 19….. yes, I got my Wii on launch date :-)

Forgot to mention. Before sending my Wii for repairs I called I spoke to a Big N’s CSR and he was the kindest and most polite CSR I’ve talked to ever. He asked me if I wanted to get all the data stored in my Wii’s memory backed up and saved, just in case it couldn’t be repaired and they’d had to send me a replacement unit, the data could be reloaded in the new unit, which of course I agreed on. Then he sent me a RMA number by email along with a prepaid FedEx shipping label, and even called me back to let me know he had sent me that label by email. They also informed me by email when my Wii was shipped back to my home. Nintendo rocks!

yeah, i guess you’re right teedub. Now that I think about it if I satrted to play smash, i probably would not send my Wii out for a long long time.

@ teedub
Also, I hope me and you are going to add each other in smash and get some action going on, maybe even throw andy G in to the mix. Of course I think we all know who will come out on top…Ahem.

You silly kids. Bought mine at Target on launch day, and you’d better believe I bought the 3-year Target extended warranty on it as well. I’m on Wii #2 as it is (Wii #1 failed after only three months). Extended warranties on most things is bunk, but on today’s consoles it makes perfect sense.

I had to send back my Wii to mothership, the second time in less than a month.
As I posted previously, they changed the CD drive because it sounded like a blender. After less than 2 weeks of normal use, it stopped reading and/or recognizing any disc, which happened on Saturday, the day before SSBB release…
Grrr, I called Big N on Sunday, got my label, stuffed it in a box, went out to pick my pre-ordered copy of SSBB and came back home to curse for not being able to play it. Today I shipped my precious with a tear rolling down my face…. sniff, sniff, ten days without playing SSBB will be an eternity.
The weird thing, and I need somebody to confirm this, is that it seems Nintendo reestablished a full year warranty for my unit after the first repair, because when I spoke to the CSR yesterday she said me this new repair would be free because I had a full year warranty, although my original warranty plus three months extension already had expired on February 19th. Is this the prelude of a new failure… well, at least I have another whole year to find it out :-)

kingbooforums, your post was not deleted intentionally and I do not remember deleting it at all honestly. I do go through around 75-100 spam posts per day and may have missed it accidentally. The only posts I delete are blatant spam aimed at nothing but advertising a site non-relevant to the subject matter here.
You are more than welcome to repost it if you’d like.

Got my wii back from the big N. Only took a week to get back. SSB worked for a week or so and then progressively started to display the “cant read disk…check manual…bla bla” error. Works perfect for other games, works perfect for all functions of the SSB game except for the error. When you win a battle (2 player…one player doesn’t matter) will display it after first battle every time…Nintendo will be calling back within the next “48hrs” to “work out a fix…for both parties…”.
