Seeing that Microsoft has launched their 360 “Elite” system, it got me wondering what folks would want from a Nintendo Wii “Elite” system. I would assume most folks would want better graphics, more storage, and better high definition support, but what else can you guys come up with? Here’s a few features I came up with off the top of my head just for fun, feel free to comment and add you own:
Alright, that’s all I got. I have no idea how much this would cost but if I had to guess, I’d say around $500-$600. Would it appeal to many folks, I’m not even sure. The point of this is to just brainstorm what Nintendo could do with an “Elite” model of their system and what it would bring to the current model. Some of this stuff some folks would use more than others and some of the ideas perhaps only I would use. What do you think would be a good addition to the current model Wii?

Yo, AndyG! I heard you say something about playing VC games with their originally controllers. Well, if they DO come out with an Elite Wii, I hope you can play the VC games in their cartridge form! For example, you put a SNES game in, and you can play it!!

I don’t think it would sell if they jacked the price up past $400. They should just do a model with the chargers, more memory, and DVD playback for $350. People would buy that.

Yeah I doubt it would sell at that 500-600 range as well, I was just hypothesizing what it might cost to have the gun, the robot, all rechargable controllers, the HiDef stuff, DVD support, everything.. $400 seems like a good ceiling for gaming consoles.
Anyone got any more ideas for an “Elite” model? Some of mine blow, give us some more ideas!

I do not want a “elite wii”, i think it would be so much more better if you could simply buy add-ons from nintendo without actually buying a new wii( do you know how hard it is to get your hands on them???) some things like HD compadibility could be introduced with patches and you having to buy the cords seperatly, or storage issues solved by an external hard drive. and even the wireless things wouldn’t require a new model…I don’t like different versions of one consol…makes them too much like computers to me.

I agree, Jake, Nintendo doesn’t need to release an “Elite” version at all. I’m not too fond of console revisions myself and thankfully, Nintendo’s only history with doing revisions revolves around aesthetic reasons; offering color changes, DS shell changes, GameBoy sizes and the like. But in most if not all of their revisions, the consoles or handhelds have kept the same functionality without splitting the userbase. The time I can think off hand of a console improvement that impacted games was the release of the N64 expansion pack which allowed you to increase the power of the system by simply buying the addon and plugging it in.
This post was really just a “What if?” kind of scenario and honestly, I could think of very little Nintendo could bring to the system that would be cause for a revise. That said, I’m not overly excited about the “Elite” 360 or the fact there are even different versions of them that are different in the sense that some have HD’s and some don’t, again splitting the userbase, but that’s for a different blog all together. :D

I love the Idea of an elite Wii as i have not purchased a wii yet. I’ve read many sites that state the wii lacks the performence of the 360 and the ps3. I would love if the Wii got a hardware upgrade to better compete as well as a memory card slot for my old gamecube games :)

All I would want to add is a graphics upgrade and DVD playback seriously who uses 120 gigs of memory on a gaming console? Isn’t that what your computer is for?

I would definitely love a graphics and resolution external upgrade hardware for my Wii. Then not only would Nintendo continue to have its usual more fun gameplay, but it would also eliminate the need for gamers wanting more graphic realism to have to split their playing time (and bucks) between the Wii and 360 or PS3. There really is no denying that an add-on that brought graphic resolution closer to the level of these other consoles would turn Wii from the most fun console which it already is, to a totally untouchable level!
Can you imagine a movie-like Zelda title or Mario Kart?
